NS127 - Claude Grahame White (August 21, 1879 – August 19, 1959) Handwritten letter dated 1912 responding to a Mr Stanley Cook. “So Pleased I was able of some small service to you”. He was an English pioneer of aviation, held UK license number 6 & French 30 and the first to make a night flight, during the Daily Mail sponsored 1910 London to Manchester air race. He bought 220 acres at Hendon, which was turned into London’s first Aerodrome. Indeed the weekend flying displays were the most popular event in London. His aircraft boxkite designs were also used for the 1st demonstrations of aerial bombings, strafing & pioneering night flights. In WWI he joined RNAS and took part in attacks on Germans held ports.
